Project Description

Project Description

YAAR is a mobile application that introduces newcomers to local communities, empowering them to feel right at home in their new country. Moving to a new environment and leaving behind support networks often causes feelings of isolation, loneliness and even depression. Yaar’s network of local buddies, social circles and city insights encourages a sense of belonging for people embarking on new journeys.

A person's hand holds a smartphone displaying the Pearl app. The screen shows a photo of a woman wearing a white jacket and a green beanie, with text that reads “Top Three Years That Match your Vibe!” and includes options for “Doga. 27”, “Social Media Manager”, “Georgia Tech 2020”, and “English, Turkish”. Below the photo, a purple button says “Request to Match”. The app interface also shows “Discover More” with icons. The background is blurred, showing a light-colored textured surface and a plant leaf.

The image shows a collection of colorful circular icons on a vibrant blue background. The icons include a green open book, a pink avocado with a white spot, a pink shoe, a pink yarn ball with pink stripes, a brown mug with a white handle, a green bird, a white clock with black hands and numbers, a pink palm tree, a green hand making a rock-and-roll gesture, a pink heart with a green outline, a pink shopping bag, and a green hand making a peace sign.

A hand holds a smartphone displaying a bright green screen with a stylized pink flower graphic and the text "You just found your first Circle!" in black. Below the graphic, the text "Crochet Saturday" is visible, along with "Central Park" and "Sat., Apr. 6". The phone’s top shows the time as 08:41. The background is blurred, with a light-colored curtain visible to the left.

A person with dark hair pulled back in a bun is seen from the back, wearing a white t-shirt. The back of the shirt features the text "Yaars Truly" in blue, with a small green heart shape above the text. Below this, in smaller text, it reads "Years of New York City" and "VAAR". The background is dark and out of focus.
