Project Description

Project Description

Sway combats environmental pollution and degradation by replacing single-use plastics with seaweed based packaging. Unlike other alternatives to plastic, Sway packaging is intrinsically marine safe, derived from a hyper-renewable resource, actively improves ecosystems, and doesn’t require industrial facilities to degrade. We unify experts in material engineering, sustainable development, marine biology, and design to create practical methods for reducing waste and better serving our planet.

A hand holds a translucent yellow plastic bag over a glass containing seaweed and a glass of amber liquid. The background is light peach. The text on the right reads: “We’re replacing single-use plastics with seaweed.” A Sway Material Development logo is visible in the top right corner.A triptych shows three sequential images of a person’s hands interacting with glassware containing colored liquids. The left image shows a hand holding a glass with red liquid and another with green liquid. The center image shows a hand placing a yellow leaf-shaped object into a tall glass. The right image shows a hand reaching toward a blue glass on a white tablecloth. Additional glassware and containers are visible on the table.A hand is holding a piece of translucent, orange-hued material between its thumb and index finger. The material is thin and curved, partially folded and spread out on a surface. In the background, a blurred object with pink and purple tones is visible, along with a clear glass jar containing dark liquid. The scene is illuminated with warm, soft lighting.A webpage screenshot displays a clean, minimalist design with a light pink background. The top section shows a navigation bar with icons and text: “Sway,” “Impact,” “The Team,” and “Blog.” The main content area features a large white text statement: “We make sustainable packaging from seaweed.” Below this, a smaller white button reads “See Our Progress.” A person’s arm and hand are partially visible in the foreground, with two glass bottles containing red liquid placed on a white surface. The overall layout is balanced and organized, emphasizing the sustainability message. Two hands hold a clear plastic Sway bar wrapper over a white cloth. The wrapper has a blue label reading “Sway” with “Biodegradable Packaging” written below. A partially visible orange and scattered almonds are on the cloth near the wrapper. The hands are positioned over a light-colored fabric surface.A layered, multilaminate structure composed of thin, printable layers and metallized biomaterials is shown against a light pink background. The structure is labeled “SWAY BIOPLASTIC” and “Multilaminate Structure” with subsections labeled “a. Thin, printable layer,” “b. Metallized biomaterial layer,” “c. Transparent core layer,” and “d. Heat sealable layer.” Three smaller images below illustrate the structure’s layers: a 3-sided sealed bag, a stand-up pouch, and a back-sealed bag.A man wearing a gray long-sleeved shirt and a bucket hat stands in shallow, clear water, holding a net. He is positioned near a wire fence that extends into the water. The sky is mostly blue with a few scattered clouds. The water appears calm and reflective.A woman with long, wavy blonde hair sits against a solid orange-brown background. She wears a sleeveless white blouse and dark-colored pants. Her right hand rests on her lap, and her left hand is placed near her left elbow. She looks directly at the camera with a slight smile.
