Project Description

Project Description

Discover nature through stories of others. North is a location-based mobile application that helps you discover meaningful places in nature through the stories of others. By aggregating locations and personal experiences from its users, North creates a curated database of places in nature from around the world. While we often fault our obsession with the digital world for our lack of engagement with the outdoors, North uses technology to bring us closer to nature and inspires us to go outside.

Three white iPhones are displayed side by side, each showing a different app interface. The leftmost iPhone displays “FIND NATURE THAT” with thumbnails for “THRILLING” and “ROMANTIC,” along with “KID-FRIENDLY.” The center iPhone shows “DISCOVER SOMEWHERE NEW” with a compass and distance indicator, labeled “NEAR” and “FAR.” The rightmost iPhone shows “SNOWALMIE FALLS” with “BUCKET,” “VISITED,” and “STORIES” tabs. The image displays nine white hexagons arranged in a 3x3 grid. Each hexagon contains distinct line-art illustrations: a mountain range, a snowflake, a tree, a cluster of trees, a stylized building, a grain stalk, a tree with leaves, a tree with pine needles, and a tree with evergreen branches. The hexagons are set against a blurred background of white flowers and foliage.A laptop screen displays a webpage titled “NORTH” with a logo featuring a bear silhouette. The page includes a navigation bar with “VIEW MAP” and a text description: “EVERY MEANINGFUL PLACE IN NATURE HAS A STORY TO TELL.” Below the text, a paragraph explains the platform’s mission: “North aims to create a database of these places and the stories of people who’ve been there to inspire others to explore the outdoors. We’ve built our favorite place in nature to our map.” A water image and mountains are visible in the background. The image shows a young woman with long, dark hair styled with bangs that fall across her forehead. She is wearing a blue cardigan over a dark-colored top. The background is a plain, light gray or off-white color. Her gaze is directed straight at the camera, and she has a neutral facial expression with light makeup that includes eyeshadow and possibly lip gloss or lipstick.
