Project Description

Project Description

De.fault is a recommendation engine built to fight bias and broaden horizons.

A computer screen displays a webpage with a black background and white text. The headline reads “Experts sound the alarm on the declining birth rates among younger generations: ‘It’s a crisis’”. Below the headline is a video thumbnail showing a baby sleeping. A sidebar on the right contains text: “Shall we explore different perspectives?” with several smaller text boxes below it containing questions and topics. The browser’s address bar shows “news.com:news/for-you-declining”. The browser’s tabs include “FOR YOU”, “FOLLOWING”, “WORLD NEWS”, “LOCAL”, “BUSINESS”, “TECHNOLOGY”, “ENTERTAINMENT”, “SPORTS”, and “SCIENCE”. The date and time are displayed as “MARCH 3, 2023 10:46 AM”.

A Google Chrome browser window displays a Google search page showing results for “parent fights” with titles like “What Happens to Children When Parents Fight?” and “Understanding what causes such behavior.” Several smaller screenshots show Google Chat interfaces with messages like “I have something else to show you!” and “Hey, have you also heard about this?” The browser’s address bar shows “google.com/search?q=parent+fights+Google+”.

A grid of screenshots displays various social media posts. The top row features posts with titles like “Understanding why can also help,” “I have something to share with you!,” “What have you heard about this?”, and “I have something else to show you!”. The middle row includes posts with titles like “Understanding why can also help,” “Shall we explore different perspectives?”, and “I have something else to show you!”. The bottom row contains posts with titles like “Understanding why can also help,” “Shall we explore different perspectives?”, and “I have something else to show you!”. The posts feature images, text, and graphics.

A smartphone displays two images stacked vertically. The top image shows a red handbag with gold hardware against a black background. The bottom image depicts a green crocodile in a naturalistic setting with green water and a black border. A white banner across the screen reads “powered by de-fault”. The phone’s status bar shows “Led By: Ayesha 2/28/2021” and “Led By: Ayesha 2/28/2021”. The background is solid black.
