SVA MFA: Designer as Author Thesis Forum 2010

The goal of the Designer as Author thesis is to enable MFA students to redress commercial, social, and cultural needs by developing ideas that matter which are then turned into viable products. The purpose of the year-long research and development process is to invent something that has not been created before or improve upon what is essential but flawed. Each student delves into personal histories in order to identify a concept that has boader appeal. Their products are not just "stuff for stuff's sake" or unnecessary additions to the real and metaphoric landfill, but things of value that in numerous ways add to the greater welfare.
