We are proud to have D.C.-based Tré Seals, proprietor of Vocal Type, to launch the Winter/Spring Milton Glaser Lecture Series. In addition to his type and graphic design he has designed the recent exhibition at the Branch Museum, "Characters: Type and Progress", an analysis of race in the U.S. as documented in word and image and interpreted through his type designs. Vocal Foundry specializes in creating type with historical reference and interpretation.
His mission is best explained this way: "I decided to find a way to increase diversity and empathy in the design industry. I knew I couldn’t just change the demographics or the education system. So I tried to figure out a way to introduce a non-stereotypical piece of minority culture into the design itself, starting with the basis of any good design — typography."
MFADers are in for an intensive view of how good design and good citizenship intersect.
