A photo of a totem pole that looks like a winged person with a pyramid on his head and pointing at something. The pyramid is covered in text. On top of the photo there is a title that says: TALL TALES: A MODERN TOTEM POLES. Social, Political and Cultural Stories on Modern Totem Poles.

Tall Tales: A Modern Totem Pole website is the virtual record of an exhibition of uniquely conceptual totem pole designs by first-year SVA MFA Design: Designer as Author + Entrepreneur students. Curated by Kevin O'Callaghan, the exhibit re-imagines the classic totem pole within the context of a modern story and design approach. While some tackle heavy socio-political issues such as the housing crisis and methods of torture, others celebrate the lighter side of things, with a timeline of dougnut flavors and the evolution of gaming consoles. The stories are as diverse as the materials used to tell them; from paper, to plexi, to found metal and wood, the show is thought-provoking.
