By Todd Carroll

My name is Shuni Liang, currently starting my MFA degree at the School of Visual Arts (SVA). Before that, I completed a BFA in animation major at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). In previous projects, I explored a combination of experimental graphic design and 3D animation.
This project explores the societal pressures surrounding the removal of moles on the female body. Moles, natural features of the body, often become symbols of patriarchal control, leading women to conform to external beauty standards by removing them. Through this exploration, I aim to uncover how these influences create internal conflict and a loss of self-identity and autonomy. Using the metaphor of the "mole," I reflect on the body as a battleground for power and control, examining the deep impacts of societal forces on women’s rights and freedom.
