Scooting 'round Rome

Scooting 'round Rome

Seeing Rome on a Vespa is a great decision-- but best advised for people with experience! In just a couple hours we scooted from the Vatican to the Coliseum to the Borghese Gardens and just about everywhere in between. We had a great time and I'm pretty sure others had a good time watching us too. Many strangers waved at us and other tourists wanted to take OUR picture.

After a long day of exciting lectures we were ready for an adventure around the city. Getting three Vespas with matching helmets for all of us seemed like a good idea. We ended up having such a great time. Driving a Vespa is an easy way of getting around and seeing the beautifully historical buildings and ruins the city has to offer. With a GoPro camera mounted to the side mirror we drove around the city for about four hours passing places like the Vatican and the Coliseum. When in Rome, do like the Romans do and drive a Vespa.

There’s nothing quite like Rome by scooter. I rented one five years ago while studying abroad and had a blast, coming back this time I knew I had to rent one again—it did not disappoint. I couldn't help but feel chills as we approached the Colosseum on Via die Fori Imperiali, circling around the ancient ruin to the putter putter of our scooter’s engine, stopping to take pictures and admire the history around us. Aside from occasionally getting lost, and breaking a handful of Italian traffic violations (uncharged), touring Rome by scooter was a thrilling and unique experience that I’d do again any day.
