Meet The First Year Students: Daun Choi

Date

By Nigel Sielegar

Each year at the start of the first semester we ask our new students to say a few words about one or more favorite projects.
Designer: Daun Choi
The poster and the pattern were made inspired by a children’s song, ‘Walk in the Woods’. The song is about walking in the verdant forest smelling flowers and trees and listening to birdsong. Like the lyrics of the song, I walked into the woods and gathered twigs, leaves, earth and pine cones. With these materials, I created letters, ‘WALK IN THE WOODS’, and drew animals including birds, flowers, and bugs that I imagined when I listened to the song and placed them harmoniously. The footprint of birds represents that birds also take a walk in the forests.

A photo of a pillow and a t-shirt using the same colorful pattern with animal and plant drawings.
