Meet the Class of 2014: Francisco J. Hernandez

Date

By Nigel Sielegar

Our series continues where the Class of 2014 tells "What I made this Summer."
"I kicked off my summer with a meeting at Funny Garbage with Kristin Ellington, who gave me feedback and support over my thesis product," Francisco J. Hernandez recalls, "I then went to the Department of Immigrant affairs at the Mayor’s Office with Monica Tavares to speak about my thesis ideations. Meanwhile, I also started an internship in Dumbo at The Public Society. I continued my thesis research by meeting with other immigrant centers, educators, alumni, and artists that all dealt with early education."
"As I continued with my research, I was offered a freelance opportunity at Happy Studio with Ellen Johnston. She was told by a friend of mine about my thesis and thought this was a great opportunity for me to learn while I worked at helping them launch their first app. It was an eye-opening experience that I am very grateful for and prepared me for the reality of my own thesis vision."
"I concluded my summer by speaking to my parents about my own personal upbringing as a first-generation Mexican-American. I also spoke to my friends who are parent trying to raise bilingual children. And finally I began sketching a refined product, including characters, site map, user experience map, and games."
