Our series continues where the Class of 2014 tells "What I made this Summer."
"This summer I designed an iconographic system extracted from the traditional weaving craft specific to Kuwait City, The art of Sadu Weaving," explains Danah Abdal. "Long and narrow women pieces joined together across a space were first created as a way to separate the living areas shared between women and men in early tribal settlements. The piece was measured to height of the tallest man in the tribe ensuring no man is tall enough to look over this barrier as woman took care of duties at home throughout the day."
"Woven iconographic elements tell a narrative about the tribe, the desert environment, and the emphasis of aesthetic symmetry and balance achieved due to the making process of this craft."
