Meet the Class of 2013: Jose Fresneda

Meet the Class of 2013: Jose Fresneda

Date

By Nigel Sielegar

Contrary to popular belief, Jose Fresneda was not raised by monkeys in the Colombian jungle. But it was there where he graduated with a BA in Industrial design, only to find out he wasn’t that passionate about it.
Determined on finding his path in life he studied photography and started to work as a freelance graphic designer. He even got to start his own design studio, focusing on editorial design, but then he got accepted at SVA’s MFA Design program, and spent a long time writing a small Bio.
He likes sunsets and long walks on the beach.
Favorite work:
"So far is one I did with my mother. It is a cookbook that organizes and recovers all of my grandmother and great grandmother's cooking recipes. This is a project close to my heart for various reasons. First because I had the opportunity to work on it with a dear friend, who is also a great illustrator, on it. Second, because it was something my mother wanted to do ever since the passing of my grandmother, a little over two years ago, but I didn't feel I could do when she first came up to me with the idea, just because I missed her so much. And third, because it was not just a great way to remember my grandmother and some of the things that made her such a special woman. It's a reminder of a part of our family's legacy, and how sometimes when you get together with the ones you love to cook a meal, ultimately the taste of the food it's the least important thing."
