Jessica Hische is a New York Times Best Selling Children's Book Author and Illustrator, as well as a commercial lettering artist who works with the likes of Wes Anderson, Louise Fili, Barack Obama, Apple and The Washington Post. Her hand lettering work in the 2000s and 2010s created a resurgence of interest in the craft of calligraphy and lettering across the design industry and beyond.
Hische is known for her quirky word inventions such as procrastiwork and designastrator to describe her work practices. She has turned lettering into a career, and spoken at more than 100 conferences, colleges, and other design events around the world.
She spoke to our first-year students at the MFA Design studio and to a larger audience of SVA design students in the evening.
