Cristina Chiappini Speaks about Women, Wild Life and Human Rights

Cristina Chiappini Speaks about Women, Wild Life and Human Rights

Date

By Nigel Sielegar

Workshop friend and faculty member, Cristina Chiappini, spoke about her interventions in women's and human rights, wild life sustainability, traffic in Rome and an exhibition of David Lynch's paintings at Sapienza today.
Speaking in Italian through a translator, Cristina revealed her relationship with the English language and the catholic church and discussed, among other things, the serious issue of genital mutilation and how she's tried to raise awareness through information graphics. She also showed her calendar for the World Wildlife group, with exquisite images she says were influenced by the work of Charlie Harper.
Chiappini is one of the few women activist designers working in Italy today. Her nuanced conceptual design was an interesting contrast to the classical Roman inscriptions that workshop participants have been immersed in for the past week and a half.
